Vancouver Restaurants - Dining Guide

Welcome to Vancouver Restaurants - the dining guide for the most vibrant city on British columbias west coast.  In our dining guide you can see reviewed restaurant listings by region, cuisine type or browse all listings in the restaurant dining guide.

Vancouver, with its sweeping harbour and mountain views, has long been recognized as one of the most beautiful places in the world. Canada also has one of most vibrant, varied, and inviting array of Vancouver restaurants. Thanks to a steady flow of immigrants to its shores over the past 100 years, Vancouver today can boast of having one of the most ethnically diverse, multicultural societies on the planet. The Vancouver restaurant scene certainly reflects that cultural variety!

Vancouverites like to dine out, and joyfully take advantage of the mosaic of tempting, tasty and surprisingly inexpensive offerings scattered throughout the city. Whether grabbing a bite from a fragrantly steamy ten seat noodle house, or gazing over the city from a revolving, roof-top 5 star restaurant, Vancouver offers restaurants for every palate and taste.

Vancouver restaurants, for starters, have the traditional kinds of fare offered in a city whose original settlers were largely of European descent.  Italian, Greek, French, German, Dutch and Spanish restaurants abound. Some concentrated in their own little areas, like Greektown on West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano, the Italian community around Commercial Drive, and the Hispanic neighbourhood in Metrotown.

The Asian influence, particularly Chinese, is everywhere. Vancouver has one of the largest Asian populations in the world (outside of Asia, of course). The many multi-generational Chinese residents have been joined in the past few decades by people from Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, and Malaysia, as well as an influx from the Philippines, the Caribbean and most Middle Eastern countries. Vancouver also has a large and long-established East Indian population, whose spicy and aromatic dishes waft out of the most unexpected places.

Being on the west coast (and Canada’s version of California) there is also a rapidly evolving “fusion” movement, where exotic styles of cooking from around the world are blended together in different ways to create new and often spectacularly tasty dishes.

And the ingredients? Vancouver restaurants take full advantage of their proximity to the Pacific Ocean, serving up all types of fresh seafood - such as salmon and halibut, but you can get almost any kind of seafood here, often prepared in creative and tasteful ways. The best beef is brought in from Alberta, while the verdant Fraser Valley east of Vancouver provides all kinds of fresh produce. Wines and cheeses from the Okanagan Valley and Vancouver Island round out the menu.

Whether you are just visiting, or a local looking for a great place to eat, you will find all Vancouver restaurants in the listings to be quite a positive experience.
